Cocadisco // bigger & better

This friday - the 31st of October - Cocadisco will be celebrating it's 3rd anniversary with a brand new edition on a brand new location. Place to be: multifunctional center De Brug at Nieuwerkerken, just outside Sint-Truiden. In comparison with former editions at Domein Het Speelhof, you'll now have to drive a little longer to get to the party. As compensation for this effort you get a much bigger, comfortable location - which doesn't feel like a sauna - where you'll have enough space to do the D.A.N.C.E. (yeah!). Other benefits: a bigger cloakroom and more toilets.

Annoying nightlife since 2005
Cocadisco has become a solid and well known party concept in Belgian nightlife which brings you good electronic music from local and international upcoming and/or already famous dj's. All of this in a trendy and well organised atmosphere with lots of party people. An advantage of Cocadisco in contrast to other, similar events: it's payable and reasonably priced. The entrance fee (€7) costs barely more than a local scouts- or chiro-party and even the drinks are democratically prized. There's an idea behind this: people don't have to be broke after offering their friends something to drink. This even was one of the main reasons for the founders to start organising: to bring qualitative events at affordable prices.

It all began in the summer of 2005 with youngsters Dimitri Cologne and Jo Dirix. They had enough of the boring nightlife in the area of Sint-Truiden and wondered why they always had to go so far to have a good party. They put their heads together and a few months later 'Cocadisco' was born. This name circulated in the 80's as a corruption of the music genres Italo Disco, Electro and Streetdance. 'Coca' mainly stands for the decadent nature of these musical styles and the nightlife at that time.

The first edition of the Cocadisco-concept took place at Montini - the legendary and famous club of Sint-truiden especially in the beginning of the 90's - and was a direct hit. Line up: Ed&Kim, Jan Van Biesen, Deg, Tomaz and Corrid'or (a local dj duo of whom only few had heard of). The second edition took place at Cultural Center De Bogaard and after that all the following editions were held at Domein Het Speelhof. The hall of fame gradually expanded with among others Monica Electronica, The Glimmers, The Subs, Freeform Five, Hermanos Inglesos, Brodinski and many more. The success of Cocadisco grew and grew each time with the result that Domein Het Speelhof became too small and the search for another location was necessary.

Let me back up
Today we are more or less 3 years further with a massive 8th edition this friday. Besides residents Ed&Kim, Corrid'or and Julex X there will be 3 other huge performers playing. First of all there's Goldfox, a strongly rising multi-talented dj from Limburg who in this area doesn't need to be introduced anymore. Then there's Sound of Stereo, Belgian's fidget revelation of 2008 and finally - as international headliner - Don Rimini, the French nu-raver who became famous with his single 'Let me back up'. To warm you up there's a link to one of this man's latest mixes, and a promotional video of his Kick 'n Run Tour, which you can find below. See you on friday!
